CBAM commercial readiness for Turkish exporters

What does the EU buyer face on defaults, can verified actual installation data improve that position, and is the difference worth pursuing?

The commercial question

Before spending time and money on verification, establish what the EU buyer faces on default values, whether actual installation data can materially improve that position, and whether proving it is commercially worthwhile.

One manufacturer. One installation. One product family. One principal EU customer/import chain.

What we look at

  • 01Scope — product, CN code, installation and EU import chain.
  • 02Default position — buyer exposure where verified actual emissions are unavailable.
  • 03Actual-data case — whether installation and relevant input data could materially change certificates payable.
  • 04Data gaps — what exists, what is missing and what has to be fixed before independent verification.
  • 05Türkiye ETS interaction — where a carbon price actually paid in Türkiye may become relevant under Article 9.
  • 06Commercial consequence — what the result means for the quotation, buyer discussion and sales position.

The work ends with a decision

The useful answer is not always “verify”. Depending on the product, data and commercial exposure, the right next step may be to proceed to verification, fix the data first, use defaults for now, or stop because the issue is not commercially material.

Role boundary

Kickoff builds the commercial model, maps the evidence requirement, identifies data gaps and coordinates readiness. We are not an accredited CBAM verifier, do not issue verification reports, do not act as an authorised CBAM declarant and do not provide formal legal, tax or customs opinions.
